”How would you rate the performance of your MP on a scale of 1-10,where 1 is extremely poor and 10 is excellent?”That is the question that Infotrak survey posed to constituents around the country as it sought to establish the ratings of Kenyan MPs.
Well, for residents of Voi constituency,Hon. Jones Mlolwa deserved nothing more than 57.2%,a mark which according to Infotrak survey’s average of 59.9% is way below the pass mark.
According to the survey,Emuhaya’s Wilber Ottichilo has the best approval ratings among his constituents at 79.9%.He was then followed by Sirisia MP John Waluke 79.8%,Teso South MP Athur Odera 79.6%,Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa 79.4%,Rarienda MP Nicholas Gumbo 79.4%,Igambang’ombe MP Muthoni Njuki 78.4%,Ugenya MP David Ochieng’ 78.2%,Likuyani MP Enock Kibughuchi 77.9%,Mvita MP Abdiswamad Sherif 76.7% and Suna East MP Junet Muhammed who completed the top ten list at 76.0%.
The ratings also seem to have brought to the fore the activity or inactivity of the legislators in the August house with most of the vocal MP’s rating higher than the perceived inactive legislators. The top performers have also been very active in their party politics;one of the factors that is attributed to their top scores.
MP’s from Nairobi county generally performed poorly with an exception of the Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan who scored 60.7%.Among the regions whose MP’S ranked top are Western,Rift Valley and Mt. Kenya regions.Other regions ranked poorly with an exception of a few MP’s who were ranked excellently well.
Other MP’s in Taita Taveta county who had good rankings include Taveta MP Naomi Shaba 72.6%,Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu 65.6% and Mwatate MP Andrew Mwadime 62.4%.Jones Mlolwa was not only ranked the poorest MP in the county but also got below the average.
